Louis Bont, professor of childhood respiratory infections, pediatric infectiologist, immunologist, has been appointed visiting professor at Yale University. One of the most acclaimed private institutions in the United States, this recognizes the global impact of research on the RS virus.

From Utrecht to Yale: Louis has long collaborated on research into vaccines against respiratory infections with Professor Daniel Weinberger at Yale's School of Public Health. And he already regularly gives guest lectures at Yale University on, among other things, the RS virus in babies. It is a common and highly contagious seasonal virus that infects almost all babies and young children. Every year, 150 to 200 babies with the RS virus are treated in intensive care in the Netherlands. Among healthy babies, one in 56 is hospitalized because of this virus. Globally, the RS virus ranks second as a cause of death in infants, right after malaria.

Louis Bont: "The collaboration strengthens our research network and is mainly focused on vaccine research. We bring as a research group from the WKZ the careful virological and immunological characterization of cohorts of children. This involves birth cohorts, children with respiratory infections and vaccine trials."

Louis Bont's appointment as professor at Yale University underlines not only his dedication to scientific research, but also his ongoing commitment to improving healthcare, both nationally and internationally.
