
Studenten Geneeskunde, Biomedische Wetenschappen / Biomedical Sciences en Klinische Gezondheids- wetenschappen sluiten hun onderzoeksstage af met een verslag. Uitzonderlijk goede verslagen kunnen in aanmerking komen voor een aantal prijzen en beurzen. Maar ook literatuurscripties kunnen meedingen naar prijzen. Hieronder kun je lezen welke prijzen er zijn, op welke wijze je je kunt aanmelden en wanneer de deadlines zijn (info alleen in het Engels).
De prijsuitreiking vindt jaarlijks plaats tijdens de Student en Wetenschapsparade. Dit jaar op donderdag 29 maart 2012 vanaf 16.00 uur.
Students of Medicine, Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Health Sciences conclude their research placements with a report. Students who have written an exceptionally good report may qualify for one of several awards and scholarships. This is also true for literature review theses. Below you can read more about the awards, how to apply and the deadlines.
The Nijbakker-Morra Foundation provides an annual incentive prize for Medical students and students of Biomedical Sciences who, during their research training, demonstrate exceptional talent for and commitment to fundamental or applied cancer research.
The prize, which consists of a € 1,500 travel scholarship, enables students to attend a scientific conference abroad in the field of cancer research. More information on

An award of € 1,000.- for one student of Medicine or Biomedical Sciences
Conditions: The aim of the Dr. F.P. Fischer Foundation is to 'promote ophthalmology in the broadest sense of the word'. The Foundation provides a yearly award of € 1,000- to a student who has written an outstanding thesis, scientific report or publication. Those eligible for the award are students of Medicine in the preclinical and clinical phase and students of Biomedical Sciences. The Talma Eykman Jury will judge the applications, together with Professor Saskia M. Imhof on behalf of the Ophthalmology Department.
The foundation "van Wijck-Stam-Caspers" provides yearly 10000 Euro to assist students from Medicine and Biomedcal Sciences of the Utrecht University to perform cardiovascular research abroad as part of their study. It concerns 4 grants of 2000 E each for students in bachelor-master and 2 grants of 1000 E for PhD students.
The applications can be submitted twice a year (deadlines March 1 and October 1). A jury will select in principle one student application from Medicine and one from Biomedical Sciences in each round. in addition, PhD students may request support (maximum 1000 E) for a visit to a foreign laboratory in order to exchange data or methodologies.
An award of € 3,000- for one student of Medicine and one student from another discipline.
Conditions: Fellowships are available for students in their second, third or fourth year of study. Students complete a research period of at least four months in the general field of cardiovascular diseases at a renowned research institute in the Netherlands or abroad. The research period cannot begin until the fellowship has been rewarded and must start within nine months after rewarding. A signed final report must be presented within two months of completing the research period.

An award of € 900- for one student of Medicine, Biomedical Sciences or Clinical Health Sciences.
Conditions: This award is a prize for a thesis, report or publication in the field of children's diseases. Applicants for this award are not eligible also to apply for the Talma Eykman Prize. For more details, see the application form.
An award of € 750- for one Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences student.
Conditions: This award is for a literature-review thesis of exceptional quality. To be eligible for the award, theses must have been submitted and assessed between 1st February 2012 and 1st February 2013. Entries will be judged by an independent jury on thoroughness of research, a demonstrated understanding of the material, logic of presentation, design, readability, creativity and inventiveness. Only theses awarded a mark of over 8 will be eligible for submission for the award.

You may qualify for an award or scholarship if:
- you are a student of Medicine, Biomedical Sciences or Health Sciences at Utrecht University, situated in the Directorate of Education and Training, University Medical Center Utrecht or
- if you are a graduate of one of these programmes and have graduated between January 2012 and February 2013.

- The applications will be judged by an expert jury.
- If necessary, the Talma Eykman Jury may seek advice from professors working in the disciplines involved.
- Two members of the Jury will grade the documents, after carefully examining the material.
- The chairman of the Talma Eykman Jury totals all grades and the student with the highest score is the winner.
- After the Jury has announced its decision, all applicants will receive a written explanation. The judgment process will take about 8-10 weeks from each deadline date. The application form specifies the documents you must include with your application.
- The WKZ Jury judges applications for the WKZ Award.
Please note: students who have done research in the field of Children’s Medicine may not apply for both the WKZ Award and the Talma Eykman Award with the same submission. You may only apply for one of the two awards.
- The SH Jury judges applications for the Suzanne Hovinga Award.
- Professor S.M. Imhof judges applications for the Dr. F.P. Fischer Award for Ophthalmology.
- The WSC Jury judges applications for the WSC Fund award.
