Protein synthesis in cystic fibrosis patients can be increased by tube feeding a large amount of proteins. However, a micronutrient mixture does not improve lung functioning or stamina. This concludes Annemarie Oudshoorn in her PhD-thesis.
Further research should determine the long term effects of increased protein intake on growth and the number of infections. Cystic fibrosis patients also show a low blood concentration of the lipid soluble coenzyme Q10, this may be increased by dietary Q10. But in this case also more long term research is needed.
