High troponin levels after subarachnoid hemorrhage strongly indicate future heart and lung complications. This concludes Wouter Schuiling in his PhD-thesis. He therefore advises troponin levels to be routinely measured in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Schuiling also analyzed the long term fate of surviving patients. He found them often to suffer from disturbed sleep, apnea, and restless leggs. Eleven percent of these patients turned out to be dependent on others for daily activities, 53 percent complained about weariness.
