The doctoral dissertation research done by Nico van den Berg has made it possible to use radio waves in humans more safely and to optimize the technology of monitoring tumors with radio waves.
He made a small adjustment to the MRI technology that makes it possible to show and study the interaction of the human body with radio waves. This has already led to a new technique for significantly increasing the diagnostic possibilities of a new generation of high-field MRI scanners, such as the 7 Tesla MRI recently acquired by UMC Utrecht.
Van den Berg received his PhD from Utrecht University on September 26. His thesis is called 'Radiofrequency fields in hyperthermia and MRI.'
