Treating endometrial cancer effectively requires a new approach.
According to Andrea Mariani in her doctoral thesis, the traditional method – in which the tumor is treated with radiation – must be supplemented with an approach in which the focus is on the disease and one that uses innovative care pathways. Although the number of new cases of endometrial cancer has remained the same over the past twenty years, the number of deaths from this kind of cancer has more than doubled. No clear explanation can be given for this.
Andrea Mariani will receive her PhD from Utrecht University on October 24. The title of her thesis is, “Management of Endometrial Cancer at Mayo Clinic: Intensive Surgical Staging and Disease-based Postoperative Treatment.”
