Antioxidants help prevent kidney disease

According to David Ishola in his doctoral thesis, antioxidants might protect against kidney diseases whereby proteins leak into the urine.

In cell cultures and experimental animals, he studied the role of oxygen radicals in kidney diseases in which people lose large amounts of protein through the urine. Such diseases are very common. Ishola describes a number of promising substances (antioxidants) that protect against oxygen radicals and reduce the severity of the kidney disease. In the future it might be possible to use these substances to prevent these diseases in humans.
