Genetic insights into intestinal cancer

During her doctoral research, Isabella Gazzoli discovered two new types of genetic changes in two known intestinal cancer genes.

These findings point to two new general mechanisms involved in hereditary colon cancer. The identification of these new constitutional genetic changes can contribute to easier early detection of a hereditary predisposition for colon cancer in relatives of these patients, which means cancer could be prevented more often.
