Nurse support reduces arterial disease

According to Nadine Goessens in her doctoral thesis, using a support program via internet and providing support by specialized nurses reduces the incidence of risk factors in patients with vascular diseases.

Vascular disease that is not accompanied by symptoms is very common in patients who have already been diagnosed with vascular disease and carries with it a high risk of new vascular complications and premature death. Bringing in a nurse practitioner meant that targets were more frequently reached for various risk factors like overweight, diabetes, and physical inactivity in the intervention group compared to the control group.

Nadine Goessens was awarded a PhD from Utrecht University on December 20. The title of her thesis is, “Risk prediction and risk reduction in patients with manifest arterial disease.”
