UMC Utrecht and the Diakonessenhuis Utrecht-Zeist-Doorn signed a declaration of intent on 17 June 2008, aimed at broadening collaboration in patient care, training of medical students, scientific research and support services.
Patients will be divided between the two institutions based on specific areas of expertise, in order to receive care in the hospital best suited to them. The support services will be combined in shared service centers, which house the facilities, financial, human resources, ICT and legal departments.
The medical specialists of the Diakonessenhuis Hospital and UMC Utrecht have been working together for years, as have personnel involved in facilities provision and patient security policy. Joining forces in this new collaboration will strengthen both our professional quality and security.
It will also offer both institutions ways of improving efficiency and effectiveness. For the UMC Utrecht, the Diakonnessenhuis Hospital represents a partner with particular strengths in basic medical specialist care connected with education, training, innovation and scientific research.
A program commission appointed by both institutions will elaborate a detailed plan for realization.
