The 'De Hoogstraat' Rehabilitation Centre is part of a regional network for rehabilitation medicine in Utrecht, which also includes the rehabilitation physicians working at the UMC Utrecht. All of these rehabilitation physicians are working closely together and exchange knowledge and experience. Their goal is to provide patients with the rehabilitation treatment they need as close to their own home as possible.
At De Hoogstraat, rehabilitation programmes are offered to children, adolescents and adults who are confronted with limitations in their daily lives as a result of disorders or diseases. Expert staff teach them to optimise the use of their capacities. De Hoogstraat offers both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and counsels and treats persons with a wide range of disorders, usually focusing on mobility impairments.
Research
De Hoogstraat is contributing to the further progress of rehabilitation medicine, by designing new research programmes and by using the findings of these programmes to improve treatment. The centre is also engaged in training, education and quality assurance projects. Knowledge obtained in research and training is being applied in everyday practice, while questions asked by practitioners are a starting point for further research and development.
