Mild ovarian stimulation together with single embryo transfer in IVF results in similar cumulative term live birth rates and patient discomfort over one year of treatment compared to standard stimulation with two embryo transfer.
This states Esther Heijnen, UMC Utrecht researcher. She presented her findings at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology congress (18-21 june, Prague).
After one year both the mild and the standard treatment have a cumulative live birth rate of about 40 percent. Besides, multiple pregnancy rates and overall costs are significantly reduced in the mild regime. The mild treatment should therefore be the treatment of choice.
