Following a TIA (transient ischemic attack) or ischemic stroke, patients are at greater risk of having a second stroke or developing another cardiovascular disease. These patients should be given medication to reduce this risk.
Patricia Halkes uses an international study to show that the combination therapy of aspirin and dipyridamole is more effective for this than aspirin alone or oral anticoagulants.
Patricia Halkes will receive her PhD from UMC Utrecht on September 30. The title of her dissertation is “ESPRIT (European/Australasian Stroke Prevention in Reversible Ischaemia Trial) and related studies.”
