Grants for three researchers


Three researchers from University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht will receive an Aspasia grant for the amount of 100,000 Euros from NWO which finances scientific research in the Netherlands. The researchers concerned are three women who were awarded a Vidi grant last year: Jose Borghans, Monique Nijhuis, and Marianne Verhaar.

Laureates
Immunologist José Borghans is studying the life cycle of cells in the immune system by using mathematical models.

Monique Nijhuis will be studying how the HIV virus responds to the latest anti-HIV drugs by conducting laboratory investigations. Marianne Verhaar, who has recently been honored as the one hundredth female professor in Utrecht, will be studying how stem cells can be used in the recovery from kidney damage.
