Danone, a global leader in the food industry has established a new innovation center for specialized food products at De Uithof in Utrecht.
Danone’s decision was influenced in no small part by the successful collaboration it already enjoys with University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht and Utrecht University’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as the central location of Science Park Utrecht. The center is scheduled to open in 2012.
‘We are delighted that Danone has opted for Utrecht’, says Yvonne van Rooy, chair of the University Board. ‘During times of economic crisis, intensive collaboration between knowledge institutions is essential to secure employment and knowledge development. Danone setting up its R&D center for medical and infant nutrition here highlights the prominence of Life Sciences and represents a great stimulus to Science Park Utrecht.'
Science Park Utrecht is developing into an internationally prominent center of scientific research and knowledge-intensive enterprises. A close partnership of the municipal and provincial authorities of Utrecht, Utrecht University, University Medical Center Utrecht and the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, Science Park Utrecht mainly houses companies in the field of life sciences.
