Prof. dr. Hans Bos

Prof. dr. Hans Bos

Hans Bos is a molecular biologist with an international reputation for his analysis of Ras-like small GTPases in cancer. His current work focuses on the spatial and temporal control of processes in cell adhesion and cell migration. In these studies genomics approaches are coupled to microscopic and even structural analysis.

The Biomedical Genetics program focuses on the link between genes and proteins, cell functioning and the development of disease. Signal transduction, gene expression and cell trafficking are among the fundamental areas of interest. Research focuses on cancer, celiac disease and copper toxicosis, using genomics, proteomics and metabolomics tools. The program is embedded in the Genomics Center of Utrecht.

This institute is leading in genomics approaches and is now investing in high throughput methods, for example the application of very fast sequencing techniques for diagnostic uses and the use of high throughput microscopy. Bos feels the research program is well equipped to face a rapidly evolving scientific landscape. “Currently molecular biology research is highly technology driven and at the UMC Utrecht, we're investing heavily in infrastructure.”
