In the Western world, cardiovascular diseases are the leading annual cause of mortality. In order to improve therapeutic options for these disorders, we focus on translational research (bridging clinical activities with fundamental research). Our program focuses mainly on increasing knowledge of atherothrombosis and heart failure. The research is performed at several levels of complexity ranging from health care in general, to population and prevention, patient care, experimental work on animals, cell biology and molecular techniques as proteomics and genomics.
