The program has five main themes. Four are linked to disease-oriented research, while one focuses on methodological and theoretical development.

- Epidemiology of Infection and Immunity
- Epidemiology of Cancer
- Epidemiology of Neuroscience
- Epidemiology, Methodology and Biostatistics
We collaborate extensively with Biomedical Image Sciences and Biomedical Genetics in both disease-related research and to advance methods and statistics. Researchers have special interest and expertise in diagnostic and prognostic research, medical technology assessment (Prof. Ben van Hout), meta-analysis and clinical trials, modeling of infectious disease (veterinary epidemiology, Prof. Hans Heesterbeek), pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacogenomics (pharmacoepidemiology, Prof. Bert Leufkens and Prof. Anthonius de Boer), and research ethics (Prof. Hans van Delden).
