Personalized Cancer Care: focuses on breast cancer and gastro-intestinal cancer.
Ambition: to provide personalized cancer care using the latest technologies.
The UMC Utrecht Cancer Center aims to develop and apply innovative approaches in diagnostics, treatment and care with a primary focus on breast cancer and upper gastro-intestinal cancer. Of course, other tumour groups will benefit from the investments in these areas. Systematic use of information about an individual patient and/or tumour (including genetic information) and novel technologies will be applied to select or optimize the individual patient's preventative and therapeutic care.
In addition, a total care concept, including supportive and palliative care is offered to patients and their families. Together, these elements form the foundation of the program Personalized Cancer Care. In 2015, the UMC Utrecht Cancer Center aims to be internationally leading in personalized cancer care through top-level fundamental, translational, and clinical cancer research, and care with a specific focus on breast cancer and upper gastro-intestinal cancer.
Oncologist Prof. Elsken van der Wall: “I believe in 2015 the treatment of cancer is highly personalized, which improves disease outcomes but also gives patients longer and better lives.”
