
Utrecht University has organised its research programs within 6 Graduate Schools. A Graduate School consists of a number of graduate (Master) programs and PhD programs dealing with related subjects, thus providing students and researchers with a forum for collaboration and feedback. They create a meeting place for graduate students, PhD students and researchers.
The Graduate School of Life Sciences, for example, is the strategic composition of forces of 3 faculties; the UMC Utrecht (the former faculty of Medicine), the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Science.
Organisation
The Graduate School of Life Sciences (GS-LS) is the responsibility of the 3 deans of the cooperating faculties mentioned above. The deans are being supported by the Board of Studies (BoS). The BoS consists out of several representatives of the faculties, the academic masters and the PhD programs. De deans and the BoS guard the quality of training, education and supervision of the Master and PhD programs of the GS-LS together.
The deans have appointed Prof.dr. G.F.B.P. van de Meer as their legal representative and as the chairman of the BoS for the GS-LS. The secretary of the BoS is Dr. S. Ebeling.
