Objectives


The Danish Model of a Sexual Assault Centre is presented. The experiences from establishing the centre in 1999, the organisation of the multidisciplinary unit, 10 years data, the medical examination including rape-kit supplies and police questioning are highlighted.
 

Target audience

Medical examiners, forensic nurse examiners, police investigators, forensic scientists.

Learning objectives


To provide a comprehensive description and illustration of skills in evidence collection, documentation and questioning techniques to be implemented in the legal approach on survivors of rape. To understand the importance of the police being an integrated partner in the centres. To facilitate discussions about current knowledge in the field, the necessity of examinations, and ways to improve the impact on the legal outcome.

Information about the speakers


Ole Ingemann-Hansen, MD, PhD, is a forensic clinician and pathologist with specialty in forensic medicine. He has been working since 2001 with survivors of rape at the Sexual Assault Centre in Aarhus, Denmark. His research in the field of rape is on the epidemiology of sexual assaults in Denmark, with special interest in the evidence collection and documentation of the medical examination through to the impact on the legal outcome.

Gitte Christensen, is a Detective Inspector at the Police District of Eastern Jutland.
She has been working in the field of sexual abuse since 1995 and teaching on the subject for several years, especially focusing on questioning the victims of rape and abuse. Furthermore, she has been working closely together with the different participants of the Rape Victim Centre in Århus, Denmark, since the centre started 10 years ago.
