Dear Colleague,
We are delighted to welcome you to the 2
nd International Conference on the Survivors of Rape, which will be held in the heart of the Netherlands at the University Medical Center of Utrecht. We are pleased and honoured to host this Conference, that will build on the success of the 1
st Conference in 2008 in Aarhus, Denmark. The objective of the 2010 Conference is to further enhance the understanding of the impact of rape for children, adolescents and adults and to improve the quality of multidisciplinary care for survivors of rape.
The
Conference promises to be both stimulating and informative with an interesting array of guest
speakers from Europe, who have been chosen for their strategic importance in key areas. We are very proud to announce that the Conference Keynote Speaker will be
Professor Rebecca Campbell from Michigan State University. Her research focuses on sexual assault and how the legal, medical and mental systems respond to the needs of rape survivors. The Conference itself is marked by a multidisciplinary character, meaning that it is designed to inform and connect people from all disciplines working in the areas of rape. Attending the Conference is an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues from all over the world, and to create an opportunity for networking and collaboration.
The
Pre Conference program will offer two workshops: (1) direct training in STEPS, which is a cognitive behaviour treatment protocol for raped girls and young women and their parents, that was developed at the University Medical Center Utrecht and (2) training in forensic examination and police questioning according to the Danish model of treating victims of rape. Following, we will have two full days of presentations and workshops and several exciting posters on display. Key topics will include: male survivors of rape; prevalence of rape; health problems after rape; cultural issues; early interventions; risk factors; revictimization; rape during war; (treatment of) rape-related PTSD; false allegations; and medico-legal issues. The wide range of sessions and workshops will enable delegates to share best practice, exchange ideas and discuss the latest research findings.
We invite you to register for the Conference and enjoy all the aspects that the Conference has to offer. Registration includes both the Conference Fee and entry to the Conference Dinner Party. Also, we invite you to submit an abstract on exciting results, innovative experiences or interesting visions. We look forward to meet you in Utrecht at what promises to be a very stimulating and enjoyable happening!
Kind regards,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

Iva Bicanic and Astrid Kremers
