Infectious diseases and disorders of immunity are a continuous threat to the life and well-being of humans and animals. The aim of the participating groups is to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases and disorders of immunity by performing basic and clinical research in a multidisciplinary approach is. Therefore, the mission of this Master’s programme is to train the next generation of researchers, thus ensuring the continuity and quality of research in the field of immunology and infection.
The focus of the program lies on the practical assignment within a research group of the Infection and Immunity Center (minor and major research project) including a Master’s thesis.
Students will take part in seminars, master classes and journal clubs, as well as advanced theoretical courses of a total of ten weeks. The later dealing with
- fundamental problems in immunology, such as recognition of antigen, development of mature lymphocyte receptor repertoires, and the adaptive immune response
- clinical immunology, addressing questions around hypersensitivities, autoimmune diseases, malignancies, immune deficiencies and transplantation, as well as vaccination, and immunotherapy against cancer
- infectious disease-oriented problems related to function and biology of microorganisms, molecular epidemiology of infections, microbial virulence and therapy resistance, interactions between host and microorganisms, inflammation, and tissue damage
Advanced courses are organized in collaboration with the Infection and Immunity Center (link at bottom of the page)
