AimInvestigate the genetic component of schizophrenia using mesaurable neurobiological traits (as brain volumes studied with sMRI tecniques) associated with this pathology as endophenotypes.
Summary
Brain volumes (intracranium, total brain, grey and white matter, lateral and third ventricles and cerebellum) will be measured and specific genes will be selected on the basis of possible involvement in the degradation of these structures. This study will use volumetric and voxel based techniques on a 3 Tesla MRI system to gain a precise regional view of morphological abnormalities. It will also use the Diffusio Tensor Imaging technique to track specific fibres connecting neurostructures implicated in the etiopathogenesis of schizophrenia (fibre tracking).
