Summary research:
The research line “pain” focuses on three topics: Neuropathic pain, postoperative pain and imaging of chronic pain. Current projects of Albert van Wijck include:
-The STIP-study to measure the effectiveness of intrathecal steroids for intractable postherpetic neuralgia (in collaboration with Mienke Rijsdijk).
-Evaluation of implementation of a postoperative pain service in the UMCU (in collaboration with Jacqueline van Dijk).
-Determination of clinical features, quantitative sensory testing and functional brain imaging of chronic unexplained pain (in collaboration with Tom Snijders and Jan van Gijn).
-Functional brain imaging of the influence of interoceptive awareness and autonomic function in pain processing in fibromyalgia (in collaboration with Judy Veldhuijzen).
-Evaluation of new techniques in the treatment of pain such as micro-current therapy and iontoforesis (in collaboration with Dorien Vrinten).
-Efficacy of regional anaesthesia in patients with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (in collaboration with Maarten Mensink).
