Projects on mechanisms of arterial occlusive disease.



  • Toll Like Receptors.


    Toll Like receptors are part of the innate immune system. Within the laboratory several projects are executed that focus on the role of TLR2 and TLR4 in atherosclerosis, arteriogenesis and repair after ischemia reperfusion injury. Projects are executed in collaboration with other partners in the KP7 consortium “Immunath” consortium and the TI Pharma consortium “TLR”. (principal investigators: D de Kleijn and G. Pasterkamp)


  • Regenerative medicine.


    Research is executed to study the potential of the cardiac progenitor cell in repair after ischemic myocardial injury (principal investigator: P Doevendans). In addition, in collaboration (hyperlink naar collaboration) with Singapore genomics Institute the effect of conditioned medium from mesenchymal stem cells is tested in vitro and in vivo (prinicipal investigator: D de Kleijn)


  • Arteriogenesis.


    Arteriogenesis is an effective means to restore blood flow by natural collateral formation. In different research programs the role of the innate immune system in arteriogenesis is investigated. Some of these projects are being executed in collaboration with the academic medical centre Amsterdam. (principal investigator Imo Hoefer).
