Why Utrecht?

Plant4Utrecht is a young, lively city in the center of The Netherlands. Less than 30 minutes from Amsterdam and just a few hours from Paris, London and Berlin, its location allows easy access to the diversity Europe has to offer.

The history of Utrecht dates back 2000 years to Roman times, and today, the combination of canals and cobbled streets together with modern architecture create a quaint, yet fresh environment. Utrecht's cultural scene is dynamic and the streets filled with participants at festivals, the theater, museums, and outdoor cafes.  



The University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) is affiliated with Utrecht University and is in close proximity to the Hubrecht Institute of Developmental Biology and Stem Cell Research. All are situated on a large campus area, called De Uithof. De Uithof houses most of the the university's buildings and affiliated institutes, including the main library, sports complex, and botanical gardens.

This rich academic environment, together with the vast research expertise and clinical specializations make Utrecht one of the premiere places to study, work and live. 

University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) is committed to cutting-edge science that integrates both basic and clinical research; to providing exceptional patient care; and to offering excellent training programs for students, researchers, clinicians and other academic professionals. Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is the only place for veterinary training in the Netherlands and is ranked in the top five world-wide. Veterinarians who have graduated from Utrecht University can work anywhere in the world, as this program is accredited by European organizations and the umbrella organizations in the United States and Canada. 

Hubrecht Institute is a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences with a focus on developmental biology and stem cells. This institute is known for its international flavor as many of its students and employees come from abroad.

The UMC Utrecht welcomes international PhD students, researchers and visiting faculty for both long-term appointments as well as short-stay programs.
