Types of Contracts and Agreements

The UU International Office and UMC Utrecht International Office have official exchange agreements with foreign institutions. There are different categories of agreements. Therefore requirements, target groups and financial arrangments may vary.

Utrecht University - Central Agreements


Official agreements that Utrecht University has with other institutes that are applicable to students university-wide (include all Faculties).

Please visit the Utrecht University Study Abroad website for more information. These places are coordinated through the Utrecht University International Office.

UMC Utrecht, Medical Faculty - Faculty Agreements

Official agreements that the UMC Utrecht, Medical Faculty has with other institutions that are applicable only to Biomedical Sciences (Bachelors/Masters), Medical (GNK), and Clinical Health Sciences students.

These agreements are coordinated through the UMC Utrecht International Office. Some benefits of applying to one of the contract institutions are:

  • the application and registration is facilitated by the International Office
  • students are not charged tuition or administrative fees of the host institute
  • quality check of education/training at the host institute

UMC Utrecht, Medical Faculty - ERASMUS Agreements

Official agreements that the UMC Utrecht, Medical Faculty has with other European institutions within the framework of the Erasmus Program that are applicable only to Biomedical Sciences (Bachelors/Masters), Medical (GNK), and Clinical Health Sciences students.

These Erasmus agreements are coordinated through the UMC Utrecht International Office. For more information, please see the appropriate program pages (left navigation menu). Students can apply for an Erasmus scholarship for the period of studies at the Erasmus partner insitution. The UMC Utrecht, International Office is authorized to sign the Erasmus papers on behalf of the Medical faculty of the UU.

Note: Exchanges through Erasmus Agreements can be for either study abroad or research internships and must be for more than 3 months, but not longer than 12 months

Non-Contract Institutions

Institutions with which the UMC Utrecht, Medical Faculty does not have an official agreement. 

However, students are welcome to arrange an exchange. Students are responsible for all arrangements and associated costs. The International Office can help with some aspects (for example, a Letter of Recommendation for a visa, PEP protocol).
