International Conference on Child Abuse Detection at Emergency Rooms

Overview of research

The International Conference on Child Abuse Detection at Emergency Rooms promises an exciting day of lectures by international child abuse researchers. The goal of this conference is to give an overview of recently published and ongoing research on child abuse detection at Emergency Rooms. Thursday, February 2, 2012 will feature plenary sessions with key note speakers, networking luncheon, and afternoon debating. The conference is designed to appeal to a wide audience: researchers interested in diagnostic research especially in the field of child abuse, pediatricians, general practitioners, youth doctors and all others interested.

Topics of the general lectures:
  • Efficacy of child abuse detection at Emergency Rooms
  • Inflicted versus non-inflicted brain injury
  • Abusive Fractures
  • Genital lesions pointing at child abuse

Time: 9.30 a.m – 5.00 p.m.
Location: Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital, University Medical Centre Utrecht, the Netherlands

The international conference is the first day of the three day Symposium 'Kindermishandeling komt dichtbij' and will be followed by:

  • Friday February 3, 2012: 'Verdenking kindermishandeling, en dan?' a symposium for medical professionals
  • Saturday February 4, 2012: 'Kindermishandeling komt dichtbij' a public symposium for parents and professionals who wish to learn more about child abuse (such as teachers and employees of daycare centers)
