S. Letsiou graduated from Department of Chemistry, University of Crete (
http://www.chemistry.uoc.gr/) in 2003. She obtained a MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Crete in 2006. During her MSc thesis she developed an analytical method for the determination of selenosugars in crude human urine based on Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionisation tandem Mass Spectrometry (API-MS/MS).
Her PhD was a joint collaboration between Department of Nutrition science-Dietetics, Harokopio University of Athens (
http://www.tmimadiaitologias.hua.gr) and Department of Chemistry, University of Crete. Specifically, her doctoral dissertation focused on the influence of certain epidemiological data (anthopometrical, lifestyle, biochemical, socioeconomical factors) on the levels of selenoproteins (Selenoprotein P, selenoalbumin, glutathione peroxidase-3) in human serum of healthy participants. Apart from the epidemiological section of her dissertation, during her PhD research she developed an analytical method based on High-Performance Liquid Chromatography On-line with Isotope Dilution Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry for quantification of selenium in individual serum proteins.
Her current interest focused on the identification and quantification of diagnostic biomarkers by mass spectrometry.
