Biographical Sketch
Stephin Vervoort
(1984) studied Biomedical Sciences at the Utrecht University
and obtained a Master’s degree in Immunity and Infection. During his Master he
performed internships in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunity at
the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia,
at the department of Cancer Immunology Research. In 2010 he started his PhD in the Molecular Immunology Lab with Prof.
P.J. Coffer. Here he studies the transcription factor SOX4.
Research Area
The
SRY-related high mobility group (HMG) box transcription factor 4 (Sox4), part
of the group C Sox transcription factors, is important in the regulation of
numerous developmental processes. Recently, Sox4 has been implicated to be
involved in the development and progression of a wide variety of tumours.
However, the role of Sox4 in cancer and its regulation herein remain to be
elucidated. The aim of this project is to study the role of SOX4 in
tumorigenesis and cancer metastasis.
