Welcome to our research website!
Our mission is to develop new solutions for problems encountered in patients with diseases of the musculoskeletal system, particularly for clinical problems in spine and knee, as well as orthopaedic infections and paediatric orthopaedic patients.
Our approach is dual-translational; In the lab, mechanistic and fundamental research is being performed related to cartilage and bone regeneration, including stem cells, growth factors and materials, where our Bioscaffolder set-up is a unique facility. We brought several developments in biomaterials and regenerative medicine to the point of implementation in clinical practice (e.g. vertebroplasty, spinal fusion, autologous and characterized chondrocyte implantation, osteogenesis imperfecta), and several clinical trials are ongoing.
Our team consists of orthopaedic surgeons, medical doctors, cell- and molecular biologists, immunologists, engineers and clinical trial support staff.
Please note that our department has dedicated webpages for orthopaedic patient care (in Dutch) and training of orthopaedic residents (under construction).
