Research and patient care are fully integrated in our research program. Our research program is organized along four research lines, departing from our clinical spearheads: Spinal Surgery, Cartilage Pathology & Biologic Joint Reconstruction, Prosthetic Infections and Paediatric Orthopaedics. Two major research oriented themes cross these clinical spearheads: Regenerative Medicine & Biomaterials, and Imaging, where the majority of our research departs from the crossings of these spearheads/themes.
Our research program is part of the Biomedical Image Sciences program of the University Medical Center Utrecht, whereas our research on skeletal tissue regeneration forms one of the three fundaments of the UMC Utrecht strategic program on Regenerative Medicine. Furthermore, there is a close connection with the Tissue Repair program at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University.
