The thermal research line has resulted in a large number of Ph.D. theses (see section Ph.D. Theses) and the development of hyperthermia technology and treatment planning. Major progress in the thermal research are the development of hyperthermia treatment planning (both a discrete vessel thermal model and FDTD and quasistatic SAR planning), the use of hyperthermia treatment planning for the optimisation of high field MRI and RF safety and the investigation of MRI guided scanned focussed ultrasound (SFUS) based tumour ablation and demarcation for breast tumours. Making high field MRI (7 T) suited for oncology applications in the body is a major new line. The RF safety of this high field MRI is being investigated and new RF phase and amplitude controlled body coils are being developed.
