AboutMaarten Mensink was born on the 25th of april, 1976 in The Hague, the Netherlands. He started medical school in 1996 at the University of Amsterdam (UvA, Netherlands). After receiving his M.D. in 2004, he started his specialist training in anesthesiology at the Department of Perioperative Care and Emergency Medicine of the University Medical Center Utrecht (Chair: Prof. J.T.A. Knape, MD). He did fellowships in pain management and pediatric anesthesia, and joined the staff of the Anaesthesiology Department at the UMC Utrecht in 2010 where he works as a pediatric pain specialist.
In 2011, he started his PhD project on hyperalgesia, especially the interaction of (neuro)-immune cells and immune mediators on synaptic wind-up of paintransmission (Promotores: Dr. D.S.Veldhuijzen and Prof. C.J. Kalkman, MD).
