AboutLeon Montenij is a resident in anesthesiology at the Division of Perioperative care and Emergency Medicine of the University Medical Centre Utrecht since December 2008. Before this, he worked as a resident in Intensive Care Medicine at the HAGA Teaching Hospital, The Hague, and participated in the research project “Pulseoximetry by lifeguards in the first aid for drowning victims”, under supervision of Joost Bierens (professor in anesthesiology and member of the International Life Saving Federation).
In december 2009, he started his PhD project “Minimal invasive hemodynamic monitoring in anesthesia”, under the supervision of Dr. E.E.C. de Waal and prof. W.F. Buhre. His first studies focus on fluid responsiveness in cardiac surgery patients with impaired left ventricle function and early-goal directed therapy in high risk surgery. The new generation, pulse-contour analysis based, cardiac output monitoring tools are used in these studies.
Leon studied medicine at Leiden University and completed the first year of Applied Physics at Delft University of Technology. He has a special interest in technical applications in medicine.
