About
Vesna Svircevic is a resident and PhD student at the Department of Perioperative Care and Emergency Medicine of the University Medical Center Utrecht (Chair: Prof. J.T.A. Knape, MD). Her research focus is the optimal anaesthesia technique in cardiac surgery and postoperative recovery. Prof. K.G.M. Moons, MD and Prof. C.J. Kalkman, MD are her promotores. She obtained her Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences in August 2008.
From 2005 until 2008 she performed the Opticare trial, a randomized clinical trial which compares cardiac surgery with and without epidural anesthesia. 670 patients were enrolled at the Isala Clinics in Zwolle and the Medisch Spectrum Twente. Currently, data from the trial are being analysed. She is also involved in the Opticare II trial, which is evaluating use of volatile anesthetics in cardiac surgery. Inclusion of the patients for Opticare II trial (n=2500) was recently completed.
