AboutJudith van Waes obtained her medical degree in 2008 at the University of Utrecht. She is now a resident at the Anesthesiology Department of the University Medical Centre Utrecht (Chair: Prof. J.T.A. Knape, MD). After completing the first year of her specialist training, she started a PhD project in 2009 (Promotor: prof. C.J. Kalkman MD; Co-promotores: W.A. van Klei, MD PhD and J.C. de Graaff, MD PhD). As part of the PhD training, she started the master Epidemiology Postgraduate at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care in 2010.
Interest and focus
Judith’s research focus is on current and alternative strategies for the detection and treatment of postoperative myocardial infarction in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. In this, she uses both prospective and large retrospective databases. The first study she conducted was a cross-sectional study to evaluate the occurrence and causes of discontinuation of regular medications in the perioperative period.
