AboutIrene Zaal was born in Veghel, the Netherlands, on the 6th of June, 1985. She started medical school in 2003 at the University of Groningen. After graduation in 2011, she worked as a resident Intensive Care in the Gelderse Vallei Hospital Ede, the Netherlands. In October 2011 she started her PhD program resulting from her earlier conducted research as a student focused on the relationship between environmental factors and ICU delirium.
Interest and focus The core theme of Irene’s research projects concerns delirium in Intensive Care patients focusing on risk factors, screening methods and pathophysiology (Promotor: prof. J. Kesecioglu, MD, PhD; Co-promotor: A.J.C. Slooter, MD, PhD).
