About Anne Marie de Smet is an intensivist with an anaesthesiology background. Her research focuses on Selective Decontamination of the Digestive tract (SDD) and Selective Oropharyngeal Decontamination (SOD). She was the coordinator and principal investigator of a large multi-center trial in ICU’s of 13 hospitals in which almost 6000 patients were included between 2004 and 2006. The first results were published in 2009 (thesis December 2009, publication list). Momentarily she works in the department of Intensive Care of the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and supports the follow-up multi-center trial on SDD, SOD and emergence of antibiotic resistance initiated by the UMC Utrecht. Expected number of included patients is more than 7000 ICU-patients.
