About Leo van Wolfswinkel (1952) graduated in medicine from the Utrecht University in 1980.
His doctoral thesis 'Opioids and Brain Stimulation Reward' at the Rudolf Magnus Institute of
Pharmacology in Utrecht was finished in 1986.
He was trained as an anesthesiologist at the University Medical Center in Utrecht (1989).
Currently he is working at the Utrecht Medical Center as a general and pediatric anesthesiologist.
He participates in the IMPACT study on implementation of prediction rules on nausea and vomitting in anesthesia.
Leo van Wolfswinkel has built and maintains an advanced anesthesia record keeping system, 'vierkleurenpen', (‘4-colour pen’) which is present in all operating rooms and recovery beds. He uses his computer programming skills to gather information from the anesthesia record system and the hospital EPR. The resulting database is a rich source of data for several research projects within the division.
