The department of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology has for its research the disposal (alone or in collaboration) of large patients cohorts, relevant animal models (central animal facility) and a well equipped research laboratory specialised in cell and tissue culture.
Research is performed in a clinical setting, the department of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology, within the Division of Internal Medicine (Geneeskunde) & Dermatology (DIGD), of the University Medical Centre (UMC) Utrecht.
Research is directed by a rheumatologist (head of the department) and a biologist (director of research). The research program is structured by physicians in rheumatology and internal disease, (medical) biologists (/immunologists), and epidemiologist. The research is executed in addition by (PhD) students/trainees in medicine, (medical)biology, epidemiologists, movement scientists or related training, technicians, data managers and research nurses.
This organisation and infrastructure provides the necessary ingredients to perform state-of-the-art translational research.
