Eduroam, UMC Utrecht’s wireless network
Are you planning on having a brainstorming session with your working group and still experience the comfort of an internet connection? Are you late for a deadline and you want to continue studying online during lunch? Logging on to the eduroam network means logging on to the wireless internet provided by UMC Utrecht. So, do you have an UMC-account and a mobile device fitted with a wireless receiver? Then, starting January 3rd 2011, UMC Utrecht provides you a free wireless internet connection.
Can I use it?
UMC’s eduroam network is freely accessible to students who have an UMC-account. As of now a wi-fi pilot version is online, providing you with access to multiple internet services.
Students without a UMC-account are also able to connect to the UMC eduroam network. Students who have an UMC-account are able to connect to other (external) eduroam networks. Make sure to check out
www.studielandschap.nl every now and then for updates concerning this subject.
NOTE!! There are certain minimum system requirements for your device in order to properly connect to the wireless network:
- Your wi-fi chipset has to be fully WPA2-compatible (incl. WPA2-Enterprise authentication)
- Your wi-fi driver software has to be available for the installed OS (Operating System)
- Your OS has to be compatible with WPA2-Enterprise- and PEAP/MSCHAPv2 authentication
NOTE!! Making use of the eduroam netwerk through your mobile device and occupying a PC at the same time is not allowed.
Where can I use it?
A stable connection is available on Hijmans van den Bergh building.
It is also possible to make use of the eduroam network in the UMC-building.
How can I use it?
To properly connect to the eduroam network, you first need a mobile device fitted with a wireless receiver. Devices such as laptops, PDA’s, smartphones and tablet-pc’s are most likely to be fitted with a wireless receiver. Preferabaly a wireless adapter with a multichannel IEEE 802.11n (2,4GHz and 5GHz).
Next your mobile device needs to be configured properly. The configuration settings are different per OS and mobile device. At the moment manuals for Windows XP (SP2 and SP3), Windows 7, Windows Vista, Android 3.0 (or higher) and Mac OS 10.x (or higher) are available (see below) . Technical support is available for all of the above operating systems.
Visit the studielandschap helpdesk if you are unable to independently connect to the eduroam network. At the helpdesk you can make a consultation appointment.
