Biography

Joyce Browne is a medical doctor and epidemiologist. The continuing global inequities in reproductive, maternal and perinatal health are the driving force behind her research and professional interests.

Her work focuses on global maternal health research, health equity and equitable partnerships in global health, research capacity building in low- and middle-income countries and education in global and planetary health. 


She currently is an Associate Professor Global Health / Epidemiology at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, UMC Utrecht in the Netherlands.

In addition, she holds the following positions:

  • Chair of the Dutch Knowledge Center on Global Health (www.kgch.nl)
  • Supervisory board member and vice-Chair (RvT) of Simavi
  • Member of the scientific committee of Action on Preeclampsia Ghana (APECGH)
  • Deputy editor for the World Heart Federation's scientific journal Global Heart
  • Member of Advisory Board EKANN, expert center for health of refugee children in the Netherlands
  • Member of the UMC Utrecht Internationalization Committee
  • Member of the UU Global Engagement committee
  • Vice-chair of the organizing committee of the 2023 European Congres on Global Health (ECTMIH) that will take place in Utrecht in 2023 (www.ectmih2023.nl).
