Genome wide studies of electrocardiographic traits

Genome wide studies of electrocardiographic traits

Research topic

The electrocardiogram (ECG) reflects the conduction system of the heart, and shows depolarization and repolarization of cardiomyocytes (the heart muscle cells). Abnormalities in the ECG can be a sign of underlying heart disease. We are involved in several large international consortiums that aim to identify genes and other regions in the genome associated with ECG traits. These include PR interval, QRS duration and the QRS voltage product, QT interval, RR interval and heart rate, and heart rate variability. These studies include genetic data of up to 100,000 individuals, allowing us to test millions of genetic variants for association with ECG-related traits and diseases.
