Miguel Castilho is an Assistant Professor of Materials design and processing at the Department of Orthopedics, University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) and at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research focuses on manufacturing structural materials for musculoskeletal and cardiovascular engineering. A special focus lies on combining novel 3D printing technologies and multi-scale modelling to design and fabricate bio-inspired materials along different length scales. At the UMCU, he personally leads the research efforts on the development of custom additive manufacturing systems for biomaterials processing and biofabrication. Dr. Castilho holds a MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Biomedical engineering (with high distinction) from the Technical University of Lisbon (IST, Portugal). Dr. Castilho worked & was a visiting researcher in several research groups across Europe: FMZ, University of Würzburg, (Germany); IDMEC, Instituto Superior Tecnico, University of Lisbon (Portugal), University of Birmingham (UK); Department of Biomedical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands), in the field of biomaterials design and 3D printing.
