Lonneke van Leeuwen is trained as a medical biologist at the UMCU (2000). From 2001 to 2020, she worked as a scientific associate at the Trimbos Institute, institute of mental health and addiction (Utrecht). She worked on projects related to e.g., substance use by youth, suicide prevention, and media impact on mental health and substance use. In 2015 she obtained a PhD in (health) communication science at Wageningen University & Research. Her study focused on understanding the impact of an Entertainment-Education television series on young viewers’ alcohol use and associated psychological processes, such as identification with characters and alcohol outcome expectancies.
In 2020, Lonneke started her work as assistant professor at the department of Public Health at UMCU (division Julius Centre). Her Living Lab-related research focuses on understanding how physical activity can be stimulated in children who are less physically active than their peers.
