Laurens P. Bosman
My research is focused on arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), a genetic heart muscle disease manifesting in life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias in patients at relatively young age. As there is no cure, the only way of preventing sudden cardiac death is by: 1) early recognition of the disease and 2) timely implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). As ARVC is a disease with high variation in clinical presentation and prognosis on an individual basis, these two concepts impose a clinical challenge.
