Saskia van Mil appointed as professor per 1st of October
Saskia van Mil is appointed as Professor ‘Molecular and Translational Metabolism’ as from October 1st. She will aim to better understand the underlying cause of human metabolic diseases and associated cancer development, and to spur and contribute to the development of improved diagnostics as well as improved therapeutic approaches. She will investigate how disrupted metabolism drives cancer initiation, in order to prevent tumor initiation. Dysregulation of the interactions between diet, microbiome and host metabolism lead to chronic liver and intestinal diseases, such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), associated with increased risks for developing hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal carcinoma, respectively. Knowledge on the molecular drivers of tumor initiation in these diseases will dictate novel cancer prevention strategies.
