All projects focus on female and off-spring vascular health in relation to pregnancy complications including preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction - in line with the research theme of the UMC to investigate female specific risk factors - imbedded in both circulatory health and child health.
Current projects focus on exploring the renal risk after preeclampsia in more detail in large populations based cohorts as well as small mechanistic studies (human and animal) ultimately aiming at selecting the right women to identify after complicated pregnancy and finding therapeutic strategies to prevent cardiovascular and renal disease after pregancy.
Furthermore, an experimental research line concerning therapeutic strategies influencing angiogenesis and the immune system like hydrogen sulphide, nitrix oxide stimulating agents (and related drugs) as possible novel therapy for placenta insufficiency (fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia) are developed. Great expertise in the field of animal models for placenta insufficiency is present.
